Description

 The Executive Director of Senior Connections reports to the Senior Connections Board of Directors to assist the Board in assuring that older people in Douglas County have the opportunity to realize their full potential and to completely participate and have access to all areas of community life.

Education/Experience

  • Must have a Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience with emphasis on human services.
  • Experience managing employees
  • Must obtain Serv Safe Certification within the first year of employment.

Skills

  • Ability to work with computers/Microsoft Office
  • Ability to manage a budget
  • Ability to write and deliver informative speeches and presentations to the community, public groups, and the Board of Directors.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents.
  • Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from consumers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.
  • Ability to write and deliver articles for publication that conforms to prescribed style and format.

Duties and Responsibilities

Listed below are examples of duties and areas of responsibility for this position. The list below does not include all responsibilities or challenges that present themselves in this position.

  • Provide information to the County about the needs of elderly people and the services available to them.
  • Assist local service agencies in organizing, developing, modifying, and expanding programming, accessible, appropriate and acceptable aid to older citizens.
  • Provide information and personal support to individual older adults and their families so they may take advantage of opportunities available to them.
  • Manage programs to enable older adults to fully contribute to the welfare of the community.
  • Develop the County Aging Unit Plan.
  • Work cooperatively with Greater Wisconsin Agency on Aging Resources (GWARR).
  • Encourage communication as well as serving as a liaison between the agency and the County Board of Supervisors.
  • Manage the Nutrition and Transportation Program and be able to fill in when needed.
  • Managing aging program staff directly employed by Senior Connections.
  • Responsible for the hiring and discharge of all Agency staff.
  • Attend Greater Wisconsin Agency on Aging Resources (GWARR), Nutrition quarterly meetings.
  • Evaluate supervisory staff.
  • Handle media for the agency.
  • Coordinate yearly events.
  • Other duties as needed.

**Chartered by the United Association on February 7, 1890, UA Local 11 has served Northern Minnesota and Northern Wisconsin for 130 years. They train plumbers and steamfitters in two zones that include Duluth, Superior, and Detroit Lakes, MN**
